Happy Mothering Sunday! The Geek World's Most Amazing Mothers

Let's raise a glass of Butterbeer to the two most important women in my life. Happy Mothering Sunday. You know who you are.

Okay, so I know I haven't yet got around to Part 2 of 'Doomed Geeky Couples' but I thought that since it's Mother's Day, I would use that as inspiration for a Mum/Mom themed post. Of course I have to get the Geekiness in there as well, so here we have 'The Geek World's Most Amazing Mothers!'

Here we go and in no particular order:

1. The Weasley's Mother. Molly Weasley.

We will always hold this warm, happy lady in our hearts. She treated Harry as one of her own and provided him with the Mother's love he never had growing up. Of course we will also remember her for killing the 'Bitch' Bellatrix Lestrange.

2. Catelyn Stark (Tully).

Okay she was bloody irritating and she always has this ^ soddin' look on her face (some please slap her - oh no they can't she's already dead, thank God for small mercies). Seriously I can't be the only one who always skipped 'her' chapters in The Book Series, surely? But she had her good points, can't think of any right now, er...she loved her children, except she left them scattered all around Westeros and beyond. Okay she really loved one of her sons - Robb Stark...except she nagged and nagged and nagged him until they all got killed in a huge, massive, explosive, bloody massacre! Good riddance I say.

3.Draco's Mother

She lied to the Dark Lord and in doing so, saved, oh I don't know - the whole of mankind both wizarding and muggle. Okay it didn't really happen but so what!!!

4. Joyce Summers. Buffy's Mom.

She was great. Until she died and left behind two daughters, one real - the other not so much. Everyone loved her and the episode of her DEATH left a big, gaping hole in my chest, labelled 'Buffy's Mummy' so RIP Joyce.

5. Cersei Lannister.

Bitch she might be. But she is one heck of a lady and beautiful to boot! She would do anything to protect her children - products of her incestuous affair with Jamie. Of course she did give birth to the Spawn of Satan. So that's got to knock her down a few pegs.

WARNING. SERIOUSLY DISTURBING PHOTO AHEAD.

This photo scares me shitless. The first time I saw this scene, I think I wet myself.

7. Mama Bates. Norman Bate's Mother. We don't know very much about her. But she must have been a damn fine Mother cause Norman went a little bit nutty after she died.

8. Khaleesi - Mother of Dragons.

What lies in store this season for Dany and her fire-breathing children? Who knows?! Well, you do I guess, if you've read the books.

9. Carrie's Mother

Okay just kiddin'. She was a terribly awesome Mum!

10. Speaking of awesome. This is legen...

wait for it

...dary!

10. Barney's Stinson's Mum.

Who is awesome. Complete Slut and chain-smoker but fun and just generally awesome! Defying gender/age stereotypes everywhere.

11. Ruth from Six Feet Under.

She also plays Barney Stinson's Mom. Ruth is a fantastic example of a well-written female character in television, actually Six Feet Under has some of the most amazing female characters in all of television, full stop. Ruth is a 60+ year old woman, learning to live again after the death of her husband. She becomes a florist, has sex with a hairdresser whilst high in the middle of a forest and generally provides the touch-post for the entire series, without ever feeling the need to glam up, although by the end of the series she is a lot more comfortable letting her hair down!

Okay so there you go folks. Happy Bloody Mother's Day.

Oh wait before you go, I have one more photo, just cause it makes me smile.

Doomed Geeky Couples from Buffy, Harry Potter and Game of Thrones. Part 1.

Hi guys, I finally got around to updating this piece of loveliness that I call a blog, so hold on to your knickers my fellow lady geeks (or guys) cause we are going on a whirlwind tour of the geek world's most doomed romances.

1. Buffy and Angel.

Pout, brood, kiss, cry, brood some more then fight, kill, come back to life, cry, kiss, brood and pout. That about sums up the on-again, off-again, on-again relationship between Buffy and Angel. Not one of my favourite couples it has to be said: he's a vampire, she's a vampire slayer, he can't go out in the day, she is a red blooded woman, he can't do the dirty - like I said she's a red blooded lady. It was doomed from the start.

2. Robb and Talisa Stark

Rough looking Doctor Lady on the battlefield catches the eye of Mr Robert Stark. Much naked frolicking soon follows:

And in the interests of equality (which is always at the forefront of my mind):

They got married in spite of Mother's firm disapproval (you really should have listened to Mummy Robby) and got themselves pregnant to boot.

All was flowers and roses (wait roses are flowers?!)...

Until...

Not to mention this...

And this...

Remember? Like you'd forget. Poor, wretched, little human that you are.

Y'all was sitting there like, "I'm watching the Game of Thrones finale, on my big ass couch, on my big ass TV, with my big ass friends. I got me some popcorn in one hand and a beer in the other and I'm gonna put my feet on the coffee table, sit back, relax and savour every single moment of this televisual delight 'cause it's the last in the season! Man! I might even cry at the end cause I'm gonna have to wait a whole bloody year for another bloody episode."

Shock, crying, face pulling and head slapping ensued within the hour for many subsequent hours.

(even hipsters feel real sadness sometimes - then they go and sing about it or write a poem (sorry - haiku).

(I like this guy)

This is more like what you looked like though:

And for a moment GoT fans everywhere were united in their saddness and shock, except for this gal on the right, who is taking down mental notes on how best to end the mortal lives of the two sitting next to her.

Darn it! Now I feel real sad. So here's the obligatory cat video - you have to watch this, seriously if you don't laugh, you ain't human.

Tune in next time for more geeky madness.
