So here are ten reasons why being a geek a bit cool (not overly cool) just a bit:
1) You get the best presents. Everyone knows what you like (you spend enough time talking about it) so they all know what to get you. While your sister gets ten pairs of socks (which Dobby would love).
2) You get to spend inordinate amounts of time reading and no one thinks anything of it. Well, they probably do think you're strange but you have your nose pressed down into a book so you don't notice.
3) You get the best seats in the cinema because you book at least three months in advance.
4) You always have something to talk about. Even if no one is listening.
5) You're never lonely because you have friends (who might only reside inside your head).
6) There's always a cool new boxset to buy or reserve. Which givers you weeks (possibly months) of pleasant anticipation. Delayed gratification is the best.
7) You're Halloween costumes are always the best - at least to you.
8) You never have to worry about popular culture. No one expects you to know what happened in the latest episode of Eat the Kardashians (that is what it's called!?) or The Jersey Whores.
9) You have a hobby that will last a lifetime. It's not like your best friends very short stint as a flame thrower. Your obsession will be with you f-o-r-e-v-e-r and it (hopefully) won't kill you.
10) You get references that other people don't. Making you look clever (at least in your own mind).
So all in all being a bit of a nerd is pretty damn fabulous-ish.
